Overall, I was unimpressed with this product.
It smelled like a lot of cheap self tanners do and reeked of DHA. The smell stayed with you for about 24 hours as well.
The color produced was extremely light, and some areas of my body turned out splotchy to the point where I was embarrassed to expose them in public.
The drying time was very quick, which was one of the only things I enjoyed about this gel.
I guess in this case you get what you pay for as this product was only $2.59 per ounce; which is extremely cheap compared to most self tanners.
Look and Feel
Paula’s Choice Self Tanner is an orange/brown gel that comes out with a slight tint. It’s a light, slick gel and has a consistency similar to aloe vera gel.
This product is very easy to apply as it is a lightweight gel that blends nicely into your skin.
Paula’s Choice Self Tanner doesn’t get all over the place and there is little to no mess made.
The gel comes out with a slight light brown tint, but once applied to your skin that quickly goes away and doesn’t work as a guide.
I thought this product was going to take a while to dry, as that has been my experience with some gels.
I was pleasantly surprised that this product was completely dry in under 15 minutes.
The gel goes on feeling “wet” and slick, but after about 10 minutes of having it on, that feel went away and it dried very quickly.
Smell (Before Application)
I could really smell the DHA in Paula’s Choice.
This gel smelled like a lot of the cheaper self tanners do.
The scent of this one was pretty unpleasant, it kind of reeked of sunscreen and DHA combined…not a fan!
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
The unpleasant DHA smell is still there the day after application, thankfully the sunscreen smell fades away.
This gel produced a very light tan. I was hoping it would at least give me a medium shade tan but in my opinion the color produced was pretty light.
I noticed my ankles, wrists, elbows and knees looked weird after using this tanner. They were splotchy and MUCH darker than the rest of my body, which I really didn’t like.
How Long It Lasts
This one faded pretty quickly. It only lasted about1-2 days which is a few days shorter than most self tanners last.
OK For Men?
I don’t think men will be a big fan of this product. The color produced is extremely light and splotchy, and the DHA smell is kind of hard to look past.
The 5 oz bottle costs $12.95 online. There is no shipping costs involved which is a plus. So this works out to be $2.59 per ounce, which is very cheap!
