Overall Opinion:

I ended up giving Rimmel London Sun Shimmer Self Tan Mousse 3 out of 5 stars.  So, I found it a bit better than average.

I found that you definitely need to leave this one on longer than an hour in order to receive a rich, dark tan.  When I left it on for 4-6hours I was very pleased with the color and smoothness of my tan.  When I left it on for only an hour, it was light, and kind of non-existent.

The smell is ok, it smells like baby powder (not my favorite, but some people like it).

It takes about 35 minutes to dry, which isn’t horrible, but it’s a pain waiting because you have to beware of the dark color guide.

Overall, I think this mousse is a little better than your average self tanner so I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

This mousse is dark brown, and very fluffy.

I liked the texture of this mousse; it wasn’t too thick or too watery.

The guide is one of the darker ones out there, and you can definitely see it as you apply it to your skin.

You absolutely must apply this one with a tanning mitt to protect your palms.

It can get messy if you’re not careful, just because the guide is SO dark.

My whole tanning mitt was stained dark brown after I used this one (which is fine, because that’s what it’s for, but just an FYI to not get it on any clothes or towels!).

The guide takes a few seconds to blend into your skin, but after it’s blended your skin is left looking dark and bronzed.

Drying Time

Rimmel London Sun Shimmer Self Tan Mousse took about 35 minutes to dry, which isn’t ideal.

I wish this one would’ve dried faster, because I felt sticky while I waited.  I also had to worry about the dark guide staining anything it touched.

This product claims to develop in 1 hour, so technically over half that time is spent drying.

Smell (Before Application)

This one claims to have no self tanner smell, and it lived up to that claim.

However, the smell it did have wasn’t too great.  It smelled like baby powder, and I’m not a fan of that smell (but at least it smells better than DHA)!

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

As the color developed over the next hour I still couldn’t smell any DHA, and the baby powder smell dissipated as well.

Color Produced

Rimmel London Sun Shimmer Self Tan Mousse claims to develop within an hour.

Once I showered my tan off after 1 hour, it wasn’t very dark.

I was maybe 2 shades darker, and had a light o medium shade tan.  Most of the color came from the dark guide that washed off in the shower.

However, I used it again and left the product on for longer 4-6 hours, and I had a dark, gorgeous tan.

So this product doesn’t exactly work as advertised, but if you decide to leave it on longer, you’ll get a nice tan.

After leaving it on for 4-6 hours I had a really dark tan that looked like I just returned from Hawaii.  I really liked my tan and how dark it was.  It was smooth and even (besides the areas such as feet and elbows).

Another thing that confused me is that the name says “Sun Shimmer”.  But there is not shimmer in this self tanner at all.

How Long It Lasts

On the bottle this mousse says it’ll last up to 3 weeks.  But if you read further, you’ll see it says it’ll last 3 weeks (if applied once weekly).  Hmmmm, so that really means your tan will last only one week.  That’s a little misleading in my opinion.

In my experience, my tan lasted around 5 days before fading, so it didn’t even last the whole week it should.

It didn’t get too splotchy as it faded which was nice.

OK For Men?

Yes, if you’re looking for a quick tan, I think this is a nice one.

Just be aware, your color won’t be very dark after one hour.

Rimmel London Sun Shimmer Self Tan Mousse is $3.20 per ounce which is a little lower than average.  But once you add in shipping costs it’s $4.20 per ounce, which is an average price point.
